This year Flatpack Film Festival in Birmingham will be looking at the original Odeon cinemas which were built across the UK in the late 1920s – 1930s by a man called Oscar Deutsch. Many of the cinemas were built in unremarkable suburbs across the Midlands, with the aim that these amazing places of magic and imagination were on the doorstep of regular suburban districts and towns. read more
The new 2 min and 20 sec ad for Sony Bravia HDTV is bursting with colour and takes the viewer on a dream like journey – a well tailored scenario suiting Sony’s global brand message “make.believe”. This live action/vfx ad has been put together by Seattle based production company Superfad.
I was out for a walk this weekend up Regents Canal in London and came across this lovely piece of painted signage “RONS EEL AND SHELL FISH”. My friend and I thought for a second we were undertaking a test at an eye specialist with those lovely spaced letters.
Famous for his thought-provoking and often controversial works, such as Dropping a Han Dynasty Urn (1995), Ai Weiwei will be the first Chinese artist to be commissioned for the Turbine Hall and will be the 11th artist to show there. Weiwei’s piece will be up 12 October 2010.
For Chanel’s recent show in Grand Palais during Paris Fashion Week creative director Karl Lagerfeld orchestrated 35 ice sculptors to build an icescape out of 240 tonnes of frozen snow ice, reaching 8.5 meter at its highest point it was a rather impressive sight and achievement for a runway.
