Sam Mason

Sam Mason is a self taught animator who became interested in animation while touring as a drummer in a band. Mason has directed two films in a trilogy called Wild Robot which reference the kitsch, surreal world of 1970s sci-fi and fantasy, using miniature sets and textural CG. Mason has also composed and performed the music for these films and is currently working on the third film in the series.
Mason has also directed a music video for Badly Drawn Boy, and collaborated with Passion Pictures’ director Pete Candeland on a series of films for the Red Bull Music Academy World Tour. He is interested in creating films which bring characters and worlds to life and which use tangible, textural materials. Mason will also continue to create and use music and sound as a key component of his films.
