Czech animator Jan Svankmajer has created a masterpiece of cinema, a strikingly original interpretation of Lewis Carroll’s classic tale. Svankmajer’s Alice remains true to the absurdity of Carroll’s original, but bears the stamp of his own distinctive style and obsessions.
