Introducing our latest screening is Brazilian artist Cinthia Marcelle and film critic, curator and filmmaker Tiago Mata Machado. Cinthia Marcelle creates films, photographs and installations which are strongly performance based and uses repetition as an artistic strategy. Her work has been commissioned for significant group exhibitions including the Biennal de la Habana, Cuba (2006), Biennale de Lyon (2007), Panorama da Arte Brasileira in São Paulo (2007) and Madrid (2008).
Tiago Mata Machado has as a filmmaker and video artist photographed the videos “475 Volver” and “Cruzada” by Cinthia Marcelle (winners of the first Future Generation Art Prize 2010, of the Pinchuk Foundation). He was the co-author of the experimental videos “Plataforma” (funded by the program Rumos Cinema e Video by Itau Cultural) and “Buraco Negro” (already shown at the New Museum in New York and at the 29th São Paulo Biennial, among other art institutions). He directed the medium length film “Curra Urbana” (1998) and the feature films “O Quadrado de Joana” (2002) and “The Residents”, premiered internationaly at the 61st Berlin Film Festival – Berlinale, in february 2011.
