Died Young Stayed Pretty is the first feature documentary to take a candid look at the renaissance of North Americas underground indie-rock poster movement spurred on by the launch of Gigposters.com. Picking up where punk left off, DYSP reveals a new breed of counter-culturists; artists that set out to destroy the mainstream through their controversial and intensely visceral design work – directed by Eileen Yaghoobian.

“Meat Joy has the character of an erotic rite: excessive, indulgent, a celebration of flesh as material: raw fish, chickens, sausages, wet paint, transparent plastic, rope brushes, paper scrap. 16mm film from 1964 by Carolee Scheemann, first performed as part of the First Festival of Free Expression at the American Center in Paris.

You should have a few opportunities during the day.” This wistful quote from Stephen Alesch speaks volumes about the spaces he and Robin Standefer create as architects and designers. Their firm Roman & Williams, is named for their grandparents, paying homage to another era. Together, they draw on the evocative moods, textures, and meaningful objects that linger somewhere between past and present.

Ellen Munro is an Edinburgh based artist who graduated in 2004 with an MA in painting from Edinburgh College of Art.
Shown here is Messopotamia from 2009 which is made from terracotta pots, air-drying clay, gouache, acrylic, 23.5ct gold leaf, permanent marker, sand, transfer and paper.
