Keita Onishi – Manuel Cardoso: Requiem

Posted by Fabio 22 November 2022

Visualization of “Requiem,” an unaccompanied choral piece composed by the 16th century composer Manuel Cardoso. The piece is in the style of polyphony, in which multiple melodies are played with different pitches and rhythms.

Each melody of the mixed chorus of 2 men and 4 women is represented by an animation in which the stroke of the pen moves with the pitch and length of the note, so that the polyphonic style in which multiple melodies intersect can be understood visually as well as aurally.

This is a video work created for the Japanese TV program “NHK Masterpiece Album + (plus),” which is based on the concept of appreciating classical music from a new perspective through collaboration with video artists.
