The directorial debut of Mimi Cave and choreographed by Sonia Reiter, the video perfectly encapsulates the youthful energy that courses throughout tUnE-yArDs’ sonic make-up and the sheer joie de vivre that characterises Merrill Garbus’ performances. ‘Bizness’ is taken from the band’s second album, w h o k i l l, released on 18th April.
Explaining the concept behind the video, director Mimi notes: “The making of the video was akin to a finger painting assignment for grown-ups. We set out to create something that would stand-up visually to the incredible rhythms and layers in ‘Bizness’. The kids in the video are Bay Area elementary students who dance and perform in their sleep, and young Merrill is played by the very talented Madeline O’Kennon. The stunning adult dancers showcase the modern dance talent in San Francisco. The amount of time and hard work put into this production was a true testament to tUnE-yArDs’ moving compositions. If only we could live inside Merrill’s music all day, everyday.”
