Sumo Science latest work for Nokia has just been awarded the Guinness World Record for the Smallest stop-motion animation character in a film. It has become an instant hit online clocking-up over 250,000 views in its first 5 days.
Ed Patterson & Will Studd both finished animation and graphic design degrees in 2003 at UWE, Bristol. They have been creating and developing ideas ever since. From specializing in different forms of animation their aim is to create a fresh mix of styles using elements of stop-motion to 2D.
For the last few years they have individually worked on a range of Aardman projects including Wallace & Gromit, Planet Sketch, Purple & Brown & various commercials.
In 2007 the pair developed the stop-frame animation series Stuff vs. Stuff, in which household objects battle it out “Fight Club” style. This was commissioned by Aardman and Player X and was released on mobile phones and the website Atom Films.
Following the warm reception of Stuff vs. Stuff, Will and Ed went on to form a directing duo under the name, Sumo Science. They are now working under Aardman Animations as directors and have since completed commercials for Innocent Orange Juice, P&O and Weetos Cereal.
