If you happen to be around Long Beach, California from today to the 13 February 2010 and have paid $6,000 then you are most probably attending the TED Conference. For us who haven’t been “lucky” enough to get a ticket, all the talks will be posted in 6 months time on TED’s website. Here is a list of the full line up. Can’t wait to see one of my favorite designers/illustrators Marion Bantjes.

Big Dog – Boston Dynamics

Posted by Fabio 8 February 2010

BigDog is the alpha male of the Boston Dynamics robots. It is a rough-terrain robot that walks, runs, climbs and carries heavy loads. BigDog is powered by an engine that drives a hydraulic actuation system. Absolutely mesmerizing to watch this robot make its way around human territory.

Gebhard Sengmüller

Posted by Fabio 20 January 2010

“A Parallel Image” is an electronic camera obscura created by Austrian artist Gebhard Sengmüller. This media-archaeological, interactive sculpture is based on the fictive assumption that the currently still valid principle of electronically transmitting moving images, namely by breaking them down into single images and image lines, was never discovered. The result is an apparatus that attempts a highly elaborate parallel transmission of every single pixel from sender to receiver. www.gebseng.com

Jason Bruges

Posted by Fabio 13 January 2010

Star designer Jason Bruges takes part in the recently opened exhibition at the V&A entitled DECODE with his contribution Mirror, Mirror. White dot matrix digital panels are arranged in the pond, awakening as visitors come into view. Cameras mounted within the LED dot matrices capture activity in the garden and simultaneously reflect this back to the viewer; the animated images are then mirrored once again in the surface of the water, creating multiple reflections. www.jasonbruges.com
