Czech architect and teacher Jaroslav Fragner (25 Dec 1898 – 3 Jan 1967) graduated in architecture in 1922 from the Technical University, Prague. With his fellow students Vit Obrtel (1901-88), Evzen Linhart and Karel Honzik he formed the Four Purists, who sought to simplify architectural form as much as possible to geometric volumes. read more

The Bauhaus school of design, craftsmanship and architecture, founded by Walter Gropius at Weimar in 1919, was largely responsible for revolutionizing the structure of art school tuition, and its basic tenets of design are now a modern commonplace. This Documentary brings together thought-provoking comment from architects, teachers, ex-students and current experts on the Bauhaus, and includes amusing anecdotes and vintage footage of the work of its founding members.

The conception of this project consistently derives from its underlying architecture – the theoretic conception and visual pattern of the Hamburg Kunsthalle. The Basic idea of narration was to dissolve and break through the strict architecture of O. M. Ungers “Galerie der Gegenwart”. A short film about New York architect Andrew Berman‘s dream project. Commissioned to design a writing studio in the woods in Long Island, he took the challenge and created a building which seems to float in a sea of foliage. The film, while informative conveys the tranquility of the building by simply inviting you to enter and experience the pace of the writer’s world inside. Directed by David Vegezzi

“It’s a shame to only have dreams at night. You should have a few opportunities during the day.” This wistful quote from Stephen Alesch speaks volumes about the spaces he and Robin Standefer create as architects and designers. Their firm Roman & Williams, is named for their grandparents, paying homage to another era. Together, they draw on the evocative moods, textures, and meaningful objects that linger somewhere between past and present.
