Introducing rap girl gang PEARLS NEGRAS and their Biggie Apple Mixtape. A collection of tracks which reflect the danger and colour of their home in the Vidigal favela (one of slum areas of Rio close to the beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana), filled with lyrics that express the life of a teenager in one of the roughest and biggest cities in the world. Their music and lyrics are a direct contrast to the misogynistic lyrics of Rio’s baile funk parties with song titles like “Traffic In Ideas”and “Mr President” reflecting the social disaffection and the daily protest happening in the city’s centre. Lyrics not expected coming from the mouths of girls who still wear braces in their teeth. Their preference is for fast, aggressive hip hop beats matching their aggressively charged performances.
