Micheal Swaney’s work, made of paper collages, paintings and videos, recall an imaginary everyday life inspired by childhood. The artist’s playful interpretation of reality opens your eyes onto the plastic language itself. Swaney’s style is a mixture of geometrical shapes and dream like abstract lines. In his 3D, performance sculpture and video work, the naïve approach conjugates with the absurdity of the subject and the formal experimentation. The artist creates a singular universe where the childish spirit of the viewer wanders. The art requires a lot of attention before all of the elements fully sink in. Hidden in Swaney’s nervous line drawings and surreal collages is an attention to detail, and a beauty, some might at first miss.
