Laura Pannack – Glass

Posted by Fabio 2 October 2013

Looking at the relationship between the subject and photographer, London based Photographer Laura Pannack decided to let photographers experience the position of the subject. She placed a sheet of glass between herself and the sitter to symbolize the glass of the lens, which is the only obstacle from actual contact. She then asked each subject to close their eyes to ensure they were unaware when she was going to take the photograph therefore taking away any control they may have felt and inflicting isolation.

It relates to my thoughts on how people often object to having their portrait taken and how they react when faced with the situation. I wanted my subjects to have no control over the image as I was aware that as photographer’s their awareness and involvement would be much more apparent._Laura Pannack
