Bobby Neel Adams

Over the weekend I came across American photographer Bobby Neel Adams work, and was instantly captured by his arresting images. As he describes himself, he began in the late 1980s to use a photomontage technique which he termed “photo-surgery”.

Photographs were altered through manual excision, collage and some time defacing of the subject. The images which are shown here belong from the series ‘Family Tree’. Portraits of immediate family members. Father/Son, Mother/Daughter, all photographed individually and then sized and printed at the same proportions, then torn and glued together. Beautiful!
