Betra Fraval

Betra Fraval is a UK-born, Melbourne-based artist whose installation and painting practice explores the transient nature of all forms. The portraits are dissolving, the grand monuments fading and all matter is essentially broken down. The palette is monochromatic and whether she is working in oil paint on canvas or gouache on paper, there is a delicacy to these pictures, which are full of softly rendered ruptures and disconnections.

Graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), Melbourne Australia in 2005, Fraval was the recipient of the annual Tolarno Art Prize, The Maude Glover Flea Award and The Seventh Gallery Exhibition Grant (Making Space ARI Festival 2007). She has shown in solo and group shows at Seventh Gallery, Red Gallery, Margaret Lawrence Gallery, Trocadero, Carbon Black Gallery and Victoria Park Gallery. She was shortlisted for the Elisabeth Murdoch Traveling Fellowship in 2009 and received a residency at Sanskriti Kendra, New Delhi India.
