August Sander was a German portrait and documentary photographer. He has been described as the most important German portrait photographer of the early twentieth century. His work includes landscape, nature, architecture, and street photography, but he is best known for his portraits, as exemplified by his series People of the 20th Century. read more

My photographs are documentations of sculptures and installations but they are also records of actions and elaborate processes. Days are spent, sometimes with a crew but more often in solitude, silently driving, carrying supplies, erecting structures and sets, and studying the slow progress of the sun overhead and its all-powerful, comfort-giving and –taking effects. read more

John Szarkowski was a photographer, curator, historian, and critic. From 1962 to 1991 Szarkowski was the Director of Photography at New York’s Museum of Modern Art, MOMA. He grew up in the small northern Wisconsin city of Ashland, and became interested in photography at age eleven. read more

Gottfried Helnwein is an Austrian-Irish fine artist, painter, photographer, installation and performance artist. His early work consists mainly of hyper-realistic watercolors, depicting wounded children, as well as performances – often with children – in public spaces.
