Phonovideo by Austrian filmmaker and graphic designer Clemens Kogler, is a VJ tool or visual instrument used to display animations in an analog way without the help of a computer. “Stuck in a Groove” is the first film made with this technique, it serves also as a demo for the technique . In the future phonovideo should be used for live performances in cooperations with musicians, performancers and other artists.

John Whitney’s demo reel of work created with his analog computer/film camera magic machine he built from a WWII anti-aircraft gun sight. Also Whitney and the techniques he developed with this machine were what inspired Douglas Trumbull (special fx wizard) to use the slit scan technique on 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Anemic Cinema An experimental film made by Marcel Duchamp(1926). The film depicts whirling animated drawings – which Duchamp called Rotoreliefs – alternated with puns in French. Duchamp signed the film with his alter ego name of Rrose Sélavy.

From the race riots of 1967 to the underground party scene of the late 1980s, Detroit’s economic downturn didn’t stop the invention of a new kind of music that brought international attention to its producers and their hometown.
