Jan Kofod Winther

I thought I would take an opportunity to show my dearest country Denmark from an unusual perspective – above. These magnificent photographs are shot by Danish photographer Jan Kofod Winther from his little 4 seater Cessna 172 plane. In this very plane he has travelled more than 1 million kilometer across Denmark and greater parts of Europe.

During the last 12 years Kofod Winther has preferred to show his photography as grand slideshows accompanied by music but an increasing demand from his surroundings made him publish a book titled “Himmelskud” (Shots from the Sky). Kofod Winther always flies alone whilst photographing as it requires great patience and focus. To achieve the straight angles and photographs straight from above he has developed a technique which consists of him photographing with the window open using his left hand, whilst the right hand navigates the plane.
The photographs shown here is just a little selection from his 220 page book which also comes in English.
