DIY Kyoto, the team of Royal College of Art graduates behind the multi award-winning energy monitor wattson, that The Guardian has described as ‘the closest we’ve come yet to an iPod of smart meters – something cool and desirable’ are launching a student design competition, inviting aspiring designers to create a new graphic design for the exterior of the wattson. I was out for a walk this weekend up Regents Canal in London and came across this lovely piece of painted signage “RONS EEL AND SHELL FISH”. My friend and I thought for a second we were undertaking a test at an eye specialist with those lovely spaced letters.

Famous for his thought-provoking and often controversial works, such as Dropping a Han Dynasty Urn (1995), Ai Weiwei will be the first Chinese artist to be commissioned for the Turbine Hall and will be the 11th artist to show there. Weiwei’s piece will be up 12 October 2010.

For Chanel’s recent show in Grand Palais during Paris Fashion Week creative director Karl Lagerfeld orchestrated 35 ice sculptors to build an icescape out of 240 tonnes of frozen snow ice, reaching 8.5 meter at its highest point it was a rather impressive sight and achievement for a runway.

American artist Stephen Antonakos created this piece “DREAM” back in June 1963. Antonakos is mostly famous for his works with neon, geometric forms and installations.

“Mercy Mercer” by Australian photographer Derek Henderson, is a photographic exploration of the Waikato River. For both Maori and Pakeha the Waikato is a source of spiritual and material needs. This photographs provide an ongoing journey, which aims to construct a portrait of this community of communities and landscape they inhabit.
