Ray Caesar was born in 1958 in London, UK. At an early age, his family moved to Toronto, Canada, where he currently resides. From 1977—80 he attended Ontario College of Art. Caesar’s vision resonates with the changing psyche of his figures, reflecting memories of his childhood and experiences in working at the Hospital For Sick Children. “My work is about hunting back innocence and using archetypes to develop spiritual growth,” says Caesar. “It is a self-portrait of my subconscious and spiritual development through imagery.” Celebrated as the grandfather of digital art. Collected by the Hearst Family; Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy; Madonna; the Bristol Museum, UK & selected by the Board of Trustees of the Museum of Modern Art, New York & Guggenheim, New York through affiliated auctions. Caesar is also inspired from such masters that include François Boucher, Jean-Honoré Fragonard, Antoine Watteau. His haunting imagery is created digitally using 3D modeling software called Maya, mastered while working in digital animation for television and film industries from 1998—2001.

My work is entirely digital, from its creation to its method of printing. I create models in a three dimensional modeling software and cover these models with painted and manipulated photographic textures that wrap around them like a map on a globe. Each model is then set up with a invisible skeleton that allows me to pose and position the figure in its three dimensional environment. Digital lights and cameras are added with shadows and reflections simulating that of a real world._Ray Caesar
