This is the view from the Manhattan Bridge of the Fulton Ferry Park, a pretty popular destination being between the Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridges, which still has the old waterfront tobacco warehouses. It’s changed a bit being made more of a “finished” park with a kind of beach etc, and has also been a regular spot for outdoor music shows, one for me being the memorable 7-7-7 Boadrum orchestrated by the Boredoms.

This place makes my heart sing. I’m so happy it’s only 2 blocks away. This teeny tiny little Cuban restaurant/bar is always warm, welcoming, and vibrating with visual over-stimuli. Surreal toy sculptures cover every square inch, and I always find something I’ve never seen before while slurping down my sangria.

It is in the city centre. This former navy area is now partly open for the public. In summer you can swim in the canal there and have a great view on old Amsterdam, the Scheepvaartmuseum and the dead heart centre of Amsterdam. I like it most in winter, silent, grey, a place to mesmorize, walk alone around, meet a local who is walking his dog, than and have a coffee in pension Homeland, the restaurant hotel there. In central Amsterdam the space is rare, and what is there is overrun with tourists and full of local traffic, the trams, a million bikes, cars and pedestrians. That is why I like this place so much, super quiet space in the centre of Amsterdam.

Delicious Middle Eastern food. Yes, the place is small. Yes, the music can get kind of loud. But the staff and food definitely make up for it. It's that kind of place you go to on a Friday night with your friends and end up ordering way too much food and drinks.

A former industrial area nowadays is a place for art and culture. There you can find for example artist studios, exhibitions, concerts and cafés. I like the place because of its special charm of imperfection and its experimental atmosphere.

Inaugurated on May 3, 1934, the Roberto Cozzi indoor swimming pool was the first entirely covered pool in Italy - a masterpiece of the engineer and architect Luigi Lorenzo Secchi (1899-1992). It's possible to book just for the day by the website www.milanosport.it and, for summer days, you can also use the terrace.

Since he switched Amsterdam for Los Angeles about two years ago, he's been quickly becoming a favorite in the downtown Los Angeles photography scene. Gijs’ photography is direct, personal, and sometimes with a little wink. He's fascinated by people, their behavior and their environment.
