Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre (Shop)

London by Julie Verhoeven

This painted of the shopping centre by my brother, Leo Verhoeven, shows a rather idyllic vision of the shopping centre we both share. Its pretty rough, full of budget shops and funny cafes and framed by a shanty town style open air market. I have a real soft spot for it as the classic under dog, thats so often slated and condemned but lives on.

Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre | SE1 | London

Party Superstore (Shop)

London by Julie Verhoeven

The Party Superstore was/is my absolute favourite London shop until it was bizarrely attacked and gutted during the summer London riots. They have been since adopted as a concession by the local Debenhams but you can still savour the full delights of the products and nonsense on line.

Address
Party Superstore | c/o Debenhams | Clapham Junction | London

Sarastro (Restaurant)

London by Julie Verhoeven

Everyone should visit this absurd restaurant once in their lifetime. Its over-priced, mediocre food but the decor and ambiance is like nothing else in theatrics and campery. You are met on arrival by a white velour 'napkin' artfully screwed up on your diner plate. Absorbent, not? Fabulously awful, yes.

Address
Sarastro | 126 Drury Lane, WC2B 5SU | London

Dover Book Shop (Shop)

London by Julie Verhoeven

This shop appeals to my lazy gene. Despite my love of drawings if I can take a short cut and avoid drawing I will and this shop answers this. Its choker block with copy right free reference matter in a kind of quaint surrounding with other worldly staff. Guilt free copying and tracing at its best.

Address
Dover Book Shop | 18 Earlam St, WC2H 9LG | London

George and Dragon (Club) (Pub)

London by Julie Verhoeven

I love the George and Dragon Public House. Cluttered deco of silly artifacts and memorabilia and slightly scuzzy around the edges. Great drinking characters, DJs and The White Cubicle gallery in the ladies toilets is difficult to beat.

Address
George and Dragon | 2-4 Hackney Road, E2 | London
