Salton Sea is not technically LA, but is a by-product of its history and my first-choice escape from the city: one of the world's largest inland seas and lowest spots on earth, a man-made lake in the midst of the Colorado desert, a resort area in the twenties turned in one of the worst ecological disaster of the past century.

Melbourne / Theatre

The Astor always makes going to see a film feel special. The art-deco building itself is beautiful and the program of cults and classics are always well curated. There's no comparison to seeing a film in it's original format - 35mm and the rare 70mm.

There is a rather beautiful faded glory to these mythical creatures, which flank the steps guarding the ruins of the Italian Terraces in front of the former Crystal Palace, which dramatically burnt down in 1936.

Hong Kong / Architecture

One of the many reasons for venturing to Yuen Long a quiet suburb, was to track down this building. It used to be a secondary school, attended by my dad, but since the school closed in the 80s, it became abandoned, and is now used as a film location for horror flicks (theres a film school across the road). He'd not seen this building since he teenage education, so the fact that I went there meant a lot to him. Most buildings of this ilk in Hong Kong have been knocked down and turned into modern flats, so when my Dad saw this photo, he was glad that it's still in tact, despite it's condition.

Manila / Art

A dedicated space in Manila for contemporary art galleries, institutions, shops, restaurants, cafes and a design studio, along a wide, shaded garden hallway, The Alley is a quiet and relaxed place where you can sit outside from afternoon to evening over coffee and wine, catch a show, put up a show, meet a friend.

New York / Restaurant

The perfect pizza in my books. Felt like a sweet spot between New York style pizzas and the classic Neapolitan

Denver / Park

Built in 1880, Denver's City Park is over 300 acres of trails. paths, ponds, and lakes, and is also home to the Denver Zoo, and the Museum of Nature and Science. It's a great place to play a game of soccer/football, go for a run with the City Park Running Club, go for a morning walk, or enjoy jazz Sundays in the summer. Modeled after English pastoral gardens and Central Park, City Park has winding paths, wide open spaces and great views of downtown and the Colorado Rocky Mountains.

Born and raised in Hokkaido, Japan, Aoi Yamaguchi has been trained to master calligraphy learning under Master Zuiho Sato from the age of 6, She is a recipient of numerous awards and supreme prizes at competitive public exhibitions. She uniquely transforms Japanese calligraphy into physical artistic expression through conceptual performance. She has performed with contemporary dancers, models, and traditional and contemporary musicians all over the world. Currently residing in Berkeley, California, Yamaguchi continues her work on her conceptual calligraphy installations, exhibitions, workshops and performances as she continues to push the boundaries of traditional Eastern classics and contemporary artistic expression.

Artist, curator and art enthusiast – born in Ukraine, studied in Czech Republic, Scotland and Iceland and currently finds her creative home in Vienna. Exhibited, among other, in the Mattress Factory Museum of Contemporary Art, WIELS contemporary art centre, KARLIN STUDIOS - FUTURA, National Center for Contemporary Art Moscow, LENTOS Kunstmuseum Linz and Meetfactory Centre for Contemporary Art in Prague. Has a soft spot for sculpture, puns, houseplants, oversized jewellery and filling out questionnaires.

Daugavpils / Artist

Alnis Stakle is a photography-based artist from Daugavpils, Latvia. He holds PhD in art education from Daugavpils University. Besides being artist, he teaches photojournalism and creative photography at Daugavpils University and Riga Stradins University. Since 2011 year he works on a project “Not Even Something” that is a research on the interstices in the city environment. Even though these interstices cover small territories, they are always intended for traversing rather than staying. No one wishes to linger there, because they are an intermediate between home and work, between one living space and another. These spaces are located between the meaningful and the meaningful, and themselves remain in the field of the insignificant and inessential. These are the places where we feel no desire to be in just like that, because with their aura of insignificance they not only make us feel as outsiders, but even “push” us away.
