Being down on the underground can be quite stressful and draining, but if you have the chance to look up and into the details that has gone into the tiling of the platforms and stations you might start to see some beauty down there. A lot of stations has bespoke tiles and decorations, almost a century old. Bethnal Green station is one of a handful in London to have been given a very specific additional decoration to the classic cream tiles and name strip. Easy to miss, but dotted around the station are a series of tiles with raised motifs on them, representing aspects of London and places that the Underground visited. Or for typographers: check the type on Hampstead station or Holloway Road for some inspiration.

One gets the impression that each book was deliberately chosen, and personally read through by the storekeepers. The curation of books and records feels very intentional and meaningful. Formed in 1990 by a collective of nine people who wanted to work for themselves on a project that they cared about, Normal's is distinguished by its discernment.

In the summertime you can take the Metro directly to the beach. And if you're over the crowded white trash tanning and blanket sex scene, enter the hidden away mens or womens area located in the big wooden beach bathhouse. Here you can lie naked and enjoy the sun on your private parts while reading a novel or surfing your iPad. Expect lots of gays and lesbos which can be a curse or a party depending on who you are as a person.
