Beautiful place to eat, drink and party in Paris

Some areas of San Francisco are so steep that the sidewalk literally is a stairway; other times it’s just more interesting to have a stairway between streets… or a slide. I once saw a grown man with a briefcase matter-of-factly go down this slide and continue on his way down the hill. Why not?

New York / Cafe

Nothing is more quintessentially New York than a diner. This eatery not only serves excellent, traditional diner fare, but does so in an eclectic environment that mixes Baroque decadence with Midtown grit.

Berlin / Other

I often go exploring into random and dilapidated areas of Berlin. I like the thrill of finding new nooks and crannies with strange visual sites. A few months ago, an old housing colony was abandoned, and many objects (such as couches and front doors) were left at the edge of the city to rot or to be scavenged. This is a view from a non-descript area of the S-bahn train tracks (between Sonnennallee station and Treptower Park station) into the most Southern part of Neukölln district.

New Haven-style-inspired pizzas and classic, crispy thick-crust cheese and pepperoni, plus locally harvested raw bar, clam and seafood appetizers. Pizza Marvin’s interior design pays tribute to ’80s and ’90s nostalgia, with gingham-printed table tops and retro quahog and Rhode Island Red chicken art on the walls. Even the gumball machine is stocked with colorful gumballs printed with the Pizza Marvin logo.

Newcastle / Beach

Tynemouth is 20 minutes from the city on the metro. It also has a great antique and farmer’s market at the weekend in the metro station. But the main draw of Tynemouth is the first of a beautiful stretch of sandy beaches which are never crowded. It reminds me of Australia. All the dogs look so shiny eyed and happy. How did they keep this place such a secret?

Warner Robins / Place

I grew up just down the street from this place, and once it closed down me and my friends had a heyday skating there all the time. I don't skate much anymore, but I credit those years as my formative years of creativity. I guess now it has turned into a gallery for amateur graffiti artists.

Jogjakarta / Street Food

Angkringan are covered food stalls on the streets and the amount increased after the crisis in 1998. Angkringan are successful because the food and drinks are very cheap. The menu offers a variety from nasi kucing (''rice for cat'': a small portion), chicken head and feet to a drink of blood from small birds mixed with honey. Characteristic of angkringan is that there are always three large kettles on the fire.

Vienna / Church

The „Kirche am Steinhof“ church is located off the beaten tourist path in the 14th district in the Steinhof Psychiatric Hospital (yes, you heard it right). The interior of the church is beautiful and designed to the tiniest detail by the famous Jugendstil architect Otto Wagner. He used new construction techniques and combined them with the necessities of the patients. For example the seating was designed so that there were no sharp edges. The bus 48A takes you there directly.

XXXI (‘Thirty-One’) is ❶ a mixed-use community space for designers (and others) to exhibit, teach, and discuss self-initiated work; ❷ a shared studio space; ❸ a residency for designers; and ❹ an online (and sometimes physical) store. It purposefully lives outside (or against) the constraints of the city it exists in and traditional commercial practice to ask what design can do when its goal is not money.

Axel Courtière is a film director and a screenwriter, based in Paris. He likes to mix film and animation. Jan Hakon Erichsen is a Norwegian artist who works within a variety of media focusing on topics like fear, anger and frustration. He has spent several years perfecting a D.I.Y aesthetic with found objects being the main source of work material. Erichsen has exhibited widely in Norwegian and international galleries and partaken in numerous international video festivals after he finished his education at the National Academy of Arts in Oslo. At the moment his main focus is making short destruction videos which he posts everyday on his Instagram account

Izabela Jurcewicz is a Photographer, Visual Artist and Educator. Izabela’s photographs have been exhibited in numerous exhibitions, including the International Center of Photography, Baxter St CCNY, ClampArt, School of Visual Arts Flatiron Gallery, Affirmation Arts in New York, RISD Museum and MONA Museum of the Newest Art in Poznan. Her works were presented during such international photography festivals as Month of Photography in Bratislava (OFF), 12th Fotofestival in Lodz, 8th Biennale of Photography in Poznan. Recent talks given at Museum Fine Arts Boston and Griffin Museum. Izabela is currently a lecturer at University of Arts Poznan.

Hiroshi Takizawa is a Tokyo based photographer who graduated from Mejiro University Faculty of Human Sciences Department of Psychological Counseling in 2006. Recently Hiroshi was awarded the Tokyo Frontline Photo Award 2012. "The reason why I take pictures is probably due to my desire to know about the root of everything. Of course, there is always more than one essence to things, and opinions differ depending on where you stand. However, there is only one truth. Perhaps, preparation and experience is required to accept this antinomy. It seems difficult to know the root of everything in this antinomy, but I will continue to compare the inside and outside in my works, based on the belief that everything is connected."

He is the co-founder of Paleworks Studio which focuses on the variety of producing—in the areas of art, architecture, and design. His multidisciplinary approach creates a base for art direction, identity design, branding, photography, art installations, product, and fashion design. His education started with two bachelor degrees -in textile engineering and graphic design- and was followed up with the Master’s Degree Course in Media Art at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar—where he also worked as a lecturer. His practice gives a range of creative services—from digital, spatial, editorial design to branding & typography. He creates projects in cultural and commercial fields both based on aesthetics and functionality.
