I vaguely thought about leaving London recently and the British Library came to mind as somewhere I’d miss. It’s an essential resource because it has almost everything. It also has some interesting exhibitions.

Milan / Bar

Cozy ambient inside, but also with tables on the street, Champagne Socialist is a good place to try natural wines from Europe. You can also go there just to buy a bootle (or more, of course) and drink it at home.

Nagoya / Bar

Yamayamado is a bar with a gallery and the owner is an alpinist. Artists, writers and people from TV comes here night after night. A beautiful affable siberian husky welcomes them. Most of them know each other. I like watching their relationships which seems a little bit complicated, that includes me. The owner is so generous and drinks like me. A 'Closed' sign is always hung in front but, don’t worry, it’s open. 5 mins on foot from Kakuouzan metro station.

New York / Garden Centre

I feel like I've watched this plant shop grow up because they've over doubled in size since I first started going! Speaks to the quality of the store and ownership. They have an excellent selection of healthy plants for a great value. This is my go to for green.

Hong Kong / Shop

Shopping may not be the main agenda of coming to Hong Kong, so when I see a boutique with an unusual selection of independent designers (pretty rare by Hong Kong retail standards), it's probably something to write home about. Located in the fashion hub that is Causeway Bay, Liger is the fashion child of style icon Hilary Tsui and stylist Dorothy Hui. Stocking an edited curation of established avant garde labels like Rue de Mail, Karen Walker and Richard Nicoll to emerging talent like Fannie Schiavoni, Swash and Bitching and Junkfood. It's a mix of edgy directional with classic wearable pieces thats makes Liger a Hong-Kong-go-to-destination, so much so that it is opening a 2nd stand alone store at the aforementioned Woodhouse mall.

A secluded coastal town only a short road trip out of Melbourne. Nice place to wander around and go for walks up into the hills.

Julie Verhoeven is an artist and designer based in London. After studying fashion she began her career assisting John Galliano before working in the fashion industry as a designer, illustrator, creative director and tutor. Verhoeven’s own fashion label, Gibo by Julie Verhoeven, was launched in September 2002, and she went on to collaborate with global brands including, Louis Vuitton, Versace, Mulberry and H&M. Verhoeven has exhibited internationally since 2003, including solo shows at MU, Eindhoven, ZINGERpresents, Amsterdam, and Vera Gliem, Cologne with the publication of 3 books dedicated to her work, 'A Bit of Rough’, 'Fat- Bottomed Girls’ and 'Julie Verhoeven, Gas Book 13’. Thanks to the creative atmosphere he grew up in, he worked towards defining his own design language. Ümit’s approach seeks to combine organic lines with natural shapes and materials. He is especially fascinated by merging traditional craftsmanship with new technologies to achieve an innovative design.

His work has been exhibited internationally, including at Paris Design Week, Milan Design Week, Frankfurt Light & Building and the Stockholm Furniture Fair.

Tai has a 30m long artwork inside the State Library of Victoria and soon to have a public sculpture on the Great Victorian Rail Trail.
