London / Cafe

A slice of Scandi in the heart of London. Great for lunch, with all the meatballs, salads and classic Scandi foods you could want, along with a great little deli shop too.

Carfax is a tower in the centre of Oxford, from the top you can see across the whole city.

New York / Studio Spaces

XXXI (‘Thirty-One’) is ❶ a mixed-use community space for designers (and others) to exhibit, teach, and discuss self-initiated work; ❷ a shared studio space; ❸ a residency for designers; and ❹ an online (and sometimes physical) store. It purposefully lives outside (or against) the constraints of the city it exists in and traditional commercial practice to ask what design can do when its goal is not money.

Brunswick / Place

This was taken on my 35mm olympus film camera and is of my old room in the house I spent most of my teen years in, which at this time had been passed onto my little sister years after I had moved out. The light through the windows was always so beautiful.

Oxford / Museum

The place I always go for inspiration, you can touch lots of the taxidermy animals and there is a separate collection in the back called Pitt Rivers which is a collection of over 500,000 objects from all around the world, especially look out for the shrunken heads!

Stafford / Lake

In 1936 George Orwell described Rudyard Lake in one of his diary entries as ‘very depressing’. Today though, I can confirm that it really is a lovely place, with a fascinating display of lakeside cabins and boathouses—more reminiscent of something you’d see in New England than the Midlands. The most popular thing visitors do is set themselves the goal of walking full circle around the lake, which is about 4-5 miles and takes around 2 hours.

Montevideo / Park

West of the city you can find beautiful gardens and parks in a zone called Prado. All surroundings are green with nature colors and smells. In this area you can find the Botanic, this is a special place to me and my inspirations.

Montclair / Hotel

A boutique hotel originally built by architect Charles Van Vleck in 1902. The bones of the landmark property remain intact while being updated with modern industrial touches.

Helsinki / Gallery

Kipsari is a vegetarian restaurant/bar in the premises of Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture. I enjoy its cozy atmosphere, the beat-up sofas and dim lights. There’s also a small gallery for the students. Kipsari is run by ARTS student association TOKYO ry.

Needs no introduction.

London / Cemetery

It might sound rather odd to suggest going to a cemetery, but this has to be one of my new favourite places to visit. Getting lost down one of the narrow paths certainly doesn’t make you feel like you’re in London anymore which can be refreshing. Another interesting fact about this place is that the late Amy Winehouse shot her music video for ‘Back to Black’ here.

Paul Camo Roberts is a Graphic designer and the Creative Director of Studio Camo, based in Margate. Paul was born and lived in London until 2017 before deciding to move to Margate with his partner and young son. Studio Camo collaborates with large companies and independent brands in entertainment, music, leisure and retail, with a client list that includes Warner Music, The O2, Nike, Gordon Ramsay Group, SSE Wembley Arena, AEG Europe, A-DNA, Vinyl Factory, Moshi Moshi Records and MIC Records. Nai-Dan Chang is a Taiwanese designer based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. She graduated from Design Academy Eindhoven in 2016, currently working as a freelance designer and artistic researcher. Her works focus on the relationship between people and spaces, from which she intends to create "atmospheric objects" in order to arouse our senses without noticing it intellectually. Material experimenting is also one of her interests, allowing her to explore the possibility of design in a spontaneous and unexpected process.

Seoul / Animator

Gyuri Cloe Lee is an independent animator/video artist who is based in Seoul, Korea. Many of her films examine the awkwardness created among seemingly unrelated, or simply misplaced things. Fascinated by heavily saturated color spectrum and unconventional storytelling, she often creates a surreal universe with no real sense of time and space, but somehow believable, and oddly charming. Her films have been shown at numerous festivals around the world. She has received her BFA in Film/Animation/Video at Rhode Island School of Design in 2017.

Martin Hultén is a photographer and artist. He is currently working with the upcoming book Doggerland, where he has taken a look at how dreams and desires are related to social structures and rituals in post-capitalist Sweden.
