Beijing / Cafe

One of our favorite meet-up places in old town Beijing close to Ditan Park. Renovated on a garage by a design veteran, the place has its unique and soulful character. A thoughtful blend of old town style and contemporary design that produces a solid and edgy vibes, true to Beijing. Their seasonal coffee menu and house desserts never fails to amaze us.

New York / Restaurant

While the current trend in noodles may well be ramen, this bafflingly-named Japanese restaurant just ten minutes from my apartment specialises in udon. Unless you are my friend Diego Zambrano it will probably take you several visits to get through all the things you need to try on the menu - the gyoza are otherworldly, the sushi 'tacos' clever enough without being silly. New York has thousands of awful Japanese places; this is not one of them. It's super nice to come in on a Sunday night and eat at the bar next to curmudgeonly old guys barking at each other in Japanese.

Lahore / Restaurant

Adjacent to the Badshahi Mosque in Lahore, The Coocos Den owned by Artist Iqbal Hussian is a delightful place to sample traditional dishes from the Punjab whilst being amidst the historically rich area of the Heera Mandi district of lahore.

Milan / Bar

Home of the negroni sbagliato. God fun for an aperitivo served in a gigantic glass, especially popular during Salone del Mobile.

Barcelona / Architecture

In 1938 during the Spanish Civil war, Francisco Franco laid siege to the city of Barcelona. On the 30 September 1938, one of Franco's bombs fell on the church killing 30 people most of whom were children from the School of Sant Philip Neri and some were refugee children from Madrid where the church had been turned into a make-shift orphanage. As people pulled survivors from the rubble, a second bomb hit the square, killing 12 more bringing the death toll to 42. It was the second worst bombing hit in Barcelona during the war. Evidence of the bombings can be seen in the pockmarked walls of the church.

Oberlin is one of the best examples of Providence's fantastic dining scene—expect a wide range of excellent lesser-known, sustainably caught local fish like tautog, butterfish and bluefish, as well as a wide range of other regionally-inspired dishes like fresh pasta, homemade sourdough, and roasted local veg. The place has a real neighborhood vibe that makes you want to stay for hours, which is definitely helped by the exceptional wine list and desserts (specifically: the Basque cheesecake).

This is pretty much my favourite park in London, especially in summer. I can’t even count the amount of times I have done shoots there and it still continues to inspire me. I also recently discovered the pergola in Hampstead Heath and the only way I can describe the place is like a beautiful secret garden and you have to take a look at this place if you’re in the area.

New York / Bookstore

Fav art bookstore in the city (and the world?). Great place for inspiration and reference art, both new and vintage finds. Not very cheap but mostly quite worth it.

Born in 1993, musical/sound artist Miyu HOSOI has been active in taking various artistic endeavors from creating the installations to bring awareness to the surrounding sound by using multichannel sound systems to the performing arts productions. She particularly is known for the overdubbing works using her own vocals. Her renowned work “Lenna” on 22.2 channels was presented at various places including NTT ICC Anechoic Room, YCAM, Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre Concert Hall and the Audio Engineering Society. She is the recipient of the New Face Award at the 23rd Japan Media Festival Art Division.

Adrian Westaway Co-founder & Director of Technology and Magic at Special Projects Adrian is an inventor, engineer and experience designer on a mission to make the human-technology interaction meaningful and delightful. As co-founder of Special Projects he harnesses technology, inclusive research and magic thinking to devise design propositions that feel familiar yet wondrous. A self-taught magician since the age of 11 and full member of the Magic Circle, he relentlessly pursues his conviction that “designers should use magic thinking and try to introduce surprise, delight and fuzzy feeling in the things they create.” After becoming the first ever James Dyson Fellow in 2007, and a Fellow of the Royal Commission of 1851, in 2010, for his work on interactive lighting systems, Adrian built a playground in Peru, had whisky with Derren Brown as a student in Bristol, and tried to make his teachers disappear. His contagious passion for magic and engineering made him a beloved tutor and lecturer in Design & Innovation at Queen Mary University and the Royal College of Art, in London and a visiting faculty member at the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design. There he teaches ‘Magic and Design’, a nomadic workshop where students are introduced to methods of using design and technology to create enchanted products and experiences.

Junku Nishimura was born in a small coal-mine village in 1967, in Yamaguchi prefecture, western Japan, where he lived until he was 18. Then entered college in Kyoto where he studied Latin American affairs. After college performed as a club DJ, worked as a construction worker and he got a job with a cement manufacturer, worked at tunnel construction sites across the country as a concrete expert. Then he got a Leica and began photographing the places he worked. After 18 years working, he quit his job and photographed countries and regions wandering around the world. He now workｓ as a freelance photographer.

Industrial designer who creates playful home decor. Founder of Dyslexic Design. Originally trained as a model-maker in the film and television industry. Jim then went on to teach at a special needs school in London before completing a Master’s degree (2006) in Industrial Design at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design (part of London’s University of the Arts). In 2016, Jim curated an exhibition called Dyslexic Design, which was designed by Ab Rogers and hosted by designjunction. The show challenged perceptions of dyslexia by accentuating its positive effects and its close association with design.

Woche is a collection of jewelry that can be worn on a daily basis until it almost becomes second skin. Its name translates to ‘week’ in German. Wearing these pieces makes them adjust to the body, with small changes in patina, colour and shape. The Belgian label, established in 2016 by Clarisse Bruynbroeck, does not work according to a seasonal approach but rather evolves through time as an unfettered collection. Coincidence and imperfection are aspects that return within the handmade pieces, in shape, material and technique. The apparent fragility only contributes to the aesthetics and does not affect the wearability of the jewelry.

I moved to Berlin about six years ago and got a job at the props department of a theatre. During that time, I decided to take a degree in Communication Design. After three years of studying, I graduated writing a bachelor thesis about my photography project "Luminant Point Arrays". Since then, the series was exhibitied in several places around the world. Right now, I am woking on a new photographic project besides working as a freelance graphic designer.
