A personal favourite as I created the branding Identity for this space, so I've spent many afternoons and evenings here whenever family visited me in Cape Town. Probably the best service in CT! The Shortmarket Club is an incredible fine dining restaurant tucked away at the top of a narrow staircase, in the centre of town. It has the feel of a closed members’ club. The space is equipt with classic New York style booths, romantic lighting, an open style kitchen and skilled waiters. The head Chef and owner, Wesley Randles prides himself on locally sources produce, he serves up dishes that tantalize and inspire. Every time. Their selection cocktails, AB Badenhorst wines and the Cape Malay octopus is a must!

In the building of the former public bath of Nuremberg a small group of people organises music concerts in the summertime. In the courtyard you can watch bands from all around the world and have a nice evening. It’s a lovable subcultural location and it’s worth a visit.

Möckernbrücke is a station of the Berlin U-Bahn network in the western Kreuzberg district, named after a nearby bridge crossing the Landwehrkanal. The bahnhof (train station) is part of the first Stammstrecke route of the Berlin U-Bahn opened on February 15, 1902. As the station also served the nearby Anhalter Bahnhof the original building was soon getting too small to cope with the rising number of passengers. It therefore was demolished and replaced by the current station opened on March 25, 1937. Severely damaged by air raids it was closed on January 30, 1944 and not reopened until June 16, 1947. I like it here for the spookiness and feeling of impending doom that it has on a rainy day.

As a dog owner, naturalist, and freelance illustrator, escaping my home office and exploring beautiful (and dog-friendly) hiking trails is high on my list. I’m lucky to live in an area surrounded by incredible, diverse landscapes that I can get to in under 20 minutes. One of my favorites is the Serpentine Prairie Trail in the Redwood Regional Park. I love going an hour or two before sunset when the light is golden and the prairie practically glows. In April, I visited at this golden hour and was delighted to see an explosion of California poppies. The view here is spectacular--in one direction, I can see the tops of the coastal redwoods, mixed evergreen forest, chaparral, and grassland. In the other direction, where the sun is setting, is the bustling city of Oakland down below, but all I can hear is the wind through the grass and the croaking of ravens.

There are libraries full of screaming children and strip lighting, and then there are libraries like The London Library. Whenever I’m there it’s hard to believe I’m not caught inside a wonderful dream, because everything about this place is so perfect as to be almost unreal.
