Beautiful chaos. I recommend a "tour guide" your first time here as it is very easy to get lost in these tiny streets and alley ways. In 1147, the Berber Almohades conquered the city, destroying most of the buildings and rebuilding its' medina. A bustling market with different sections including tile, metal, art, scarves, jewelry, rugs, antiques, teas, oils, etc. Be careful to decipher what "shops" are authentically Berber, and which are actually just items made in china. I discovered it after watching Dark Passage, a 1947 Bogart and Bacall film noir. Lauren Bacall's character lives on the third floor and Bogey holes up there. A Deco beauty cruising towards the Bay. It has the coolest lift ever.

If I lived closer to the West Village I’d go over to Jack’s every morning for a coffee and occasionally having what is probably the best chocolate chip cookie in New York (and it’s just a dollar!). Even though it’s rarely in my way I try to go here now and then, maybe in combination with a stroll down the beautiful Bleeker Street or to read a book sitting in their window.
