Plaka is a historic neighborhood located in the heart of Athens, Greece. It is known for its picturesque narrow streets, traditional Greek architecture, and scenic views of the Acropolis. Plaka is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Athens, and it is located at the foot of the Acropolis hill. The area is characterized by its neoclassical buildings, Byzantine churches, and Ottoman-era mansions. In Plaka, visitors can find a variety of restaurants, cafes, bars, and shops selling souvenirs and traditional Greek products. The neighborhood is also home to several museums, including the Museum of Greek Folk Musical Instruments, the Museum of Popular Music Instruments, and the Museum of Greek Children's Art. One of the main attractions in Plaka is the Anafiotika neighborhood, a tiny enclave of whitewashed houses and narrow alleys that resemble the villages of the Cyclades islands. Another popular site in Plaka is the Roman Agora, an ancient marketplace that dates back to the 1st century BC. Plaka is a charming and vibrant neighborhood that offers visitors a glimpse into the history and culture of Athens, as well as stunning views of the city's most famous landmark, the Acropolis.

Between colony gardens in Amager lies one of my favourite local spots: Baghaven. Good food and cosiness is in the forefront. Various events with and without music gather people on the square at Diamantgangen 75. A very local experience. Great for families, children, young and old.

A little sanctuary for me. I come in here once a week and look around and touch the records and ponder and rarely (sorry to say this) buy anything! I bet they have a nickname for me….

The Oostvaardersdijk is huge dike that protect the polder of Flevoland from being flooded. It's near the city of Almere that was founded in 1975 on the just recovered land of the Flevopolder. It is a great place to see the skyline of Amsterdam and look out over the Markermeer, the former Zuiderzee. When you turn around you can look down in the polder on an impressive group of modern windmills, in the distance you see the city of Almere. This is Holland at it's core: endless flats with the endless skies you know from Seventeenth century painting. You can drive the Oostvaardersdijk north to Lelystad and cross the lake to Enkhuizen and back to Amsterdam. On the way you drive past Oostvaardersplassen nature reserve, a large area of marshes and wild land in the Flevopolder, where they introduced wild horses and prehistoric cattle.

The Latvian name for the river, "Daugava" originated from the ancient Baltic words - "the great water". Daugava's total catchment area falls in Latvia. The Daugava actually begins life in Russia, springing from the Valdai Hills in West Russia (where it is known as the Western Dvina) and making its way through Belarus before arriving in Latvia and draining in the Gulf of Riga. Out of the Daugava's 1005 kilometre length, 352 kilometres are in Latvia. This is a great place for a summer evening walk.

There is absolutely no reason to go to this museum, which is the very reason why you should go! If you're stuck on run-of-the-mill, socially-relevant, highly-educational museum experiences, then Chuck E. Cheese would be more enlightening, but if your idea of a good afternoon is sifting through hand-made treasures at an alzheimer patients rummage sale, then I've got your spot! It's very small, dimly lit, and not many of the displays actually function, but it does encapsulate a very distinct, random, getting-away-with-it spirit, which courses through the finest of Los Angelenos.

Zappeion Hall, also known as the Zappeion Megaron, is a neoclassical building located in the heart of Athens, Greece. It was built in the late 19th century and is named after the Zappas brothers, who were wealthy Greek philanthropists. The Zappeion Hall was designed by Danish architect Theophil Hansen and was originally built to host events for the revival of the Olympic Games in Athens in 1896. It was the first building in Greece to be constructed specifically for this purpose. The building features a large central hall, surrounded by several smaller rooms and courtyards. It has a distinctive neoclassical design, with columns and ornate detailing inspired by ancient Greek architecture. Over the years, the Zappeion Hall has been used for a wide range of events, including exhibitions, conferences, and cultural events. It has also been used as a filming location for several movies and television shows. Today, the Zappeion Hall is a popular tourist attraction and an important cultural landmark in Athens. Visitors can explore the building and its grounds, attend events and exhibitions, or simply enjoy the beautiful neoclassical architecture and gardens.

Spacious bar and dining place with a scandinavian feeling to it. Different independent shops like record shops, flowers, etc inside the place. Pizza is good!

Everyone who works at Daunt Books seems to have the answer to any question you might have, watching my large dog carefully navigate their narrow aisles is always fun too.

Artengine is a local arts group that produces technologically based presentations. As part of their Electric Fields program, I recently attended Swim Sound – a sound performance at a municipal pool. A percussionist played on a floating platform, while a knob twiddler tweaked and tweezed the inputs coming from drum mics and a couple underwater mics. Too fun with an encore performance possibly happening in the spring!

Situated on Lewisham Way Meze Mangal cooks up the best Turkish cuisine in South London with its massive charcoal grill situated for all to see, the smells and atmosphere are great. Always busy so make sure to book in advance.
