I probably spend too much time here but I love it for the atmosphere. During the day it’s quite empty. The proprietor is often dozing in the back corner and you can read for hours with just one cup of tea without anyone bothering you. It picks up in the evenings as all the regulars pile in with pre-bought bottles of wine.

In 1936 George Orwell described Rudyard Lake in one of his diary entries as ‘very depressing’. Today though, I can confirm that it really is a lovely place, with a fascinating display of lakeside cabins and boathouses—more reminiscent of something you’d see in New England than the Midlands. The most popular thing visitors do is set themselves the goal of walking full circle around the lake, which is about 4-5 miles and takes around 2 hours.

Great little chocolate shop that features sweets and cakes with a different take on chocolate. It's part of the Summerbird chain of small chocolate shops, but this one is the "Pure" shop and is dedicated to experiment with flavours and try out new recipes before they are launched in the whole chain. Every month the shop creates a new "flødebolle"(cream bun) based on the time of year and what's available from nature in a limited batch. I'm hooked and need to go there at least once a month.

There isn't the greatest selection of take-away places in Bergen but Ichiban sells super fresh and well prepared sushi. They primarily focus on take-away, though there are a few seats within the premises. Note - closed on sundays.

I think many people have a biased opinion that Kansas is all flat and yellow. Eastern Kansas is actually really lush and green. Riverfront Park sits alongside the Kansas River and the trails cut right through the trees. It's a good spot to be in nature and find critters and animal parts, all important to my work. Plus my dog loves to run around and get in the water.

Just down the street from the impossible to get into Frenchie, you can complete the Gregory Marchand hat trick at the latest outpost from the renowned Frenchie chef. The Anglo-inspired eatery features excellent Reubens, flavorful fish and chips, sweet treats like brownies and pecan pie, housemade ginger beer, pickles & maple smoked bacon, and a great beer list.

Sometimes when I wake up it feels like I am at sea watching a big ocean liner pass by. It is the view from my home in one of the two stepped concrete apartment blocks that make up the Brunswick Centre in Bloomsbury. When you visit skip the chain stores of the shopping centre below (except for the excellent Renoir Cinema) and instead get an invitation to one of the small but gorgeous flats with their winter gardens or just wander through the spectacular concrete A frames and across the vast sun drenched terraces on podium level.

I have been getting burgers here since I first moved to NYC. I think it is 1000 years old or something like that. Only two types of burgers, with or without bacon. I like easy decisions and this place is full of them. There is usually a line to be seated, but it always seems to go fast with $2.50 mugs of McSorley's. It's also at this strange vortex in the west village where 4th street and 12th street cross. Maybe that's why the line never takes too long and everything is so cheap.

She is the author of the book The Radical Singularity: Essay on Singular Phenomena and a professor of philosophy at various institutes in Latin America. Today she intends to rethink Humanism by proposing a new reading of the modern tradition, under a fundamental premise: that the future does not design humans, but that we design a more humane future.
