At the midpoint of the Filbert steps, near tourist favourite Coit Tower, The Malloch is a streamline Moderne gem built in 1937. I discovered it after watching Dark Passage, a 1947 Bogart and Bacall film noir. Lauren Bacall's character lives on the third floor and Bogey holes up there. A Deco beauty cruising towards the Bay. It has the coolest lift ever.

In a city with such a big presence of historical landmarks, the fact that the contemporary museum is housed in the former city jail seems rather ironic—a lounge bar is also quite fittingly located on the jail's patio. Conserving most of the old elements from its former use, the space is always worth visiting, even if it's only to interact with this wonderful permanent installation by Mona Hatoum. The piece, located in room 4, repurposes the cell's doors to form a revolving door without exit.

I did Cultural Studies at Goldsmiths College in London, and History and Aesthetics of Contemporary Art in Madrid and Barcelona. I’ve worked in a magazine, an art gallery, an international art biennial, a museum, a news agency and a university. At some point in my life I realized that my dream job didn’t exist so I decided to invent it. I work as Content Director in visualMAG, an online cultural magazine that emerges from the fascinating encounter of the Internet and the creative industries. But that is only the beginning. The second part of the project, visualMANIAC, will magically appear in a few months. You're gonna love it.
